Supervision

Secret Garden in the Ham is a stay and play environment.

Whilst the garden is monitored and staffed, Parents and carers remain responsible for the supervision, safety and behaviour of their children at all times.

Outdoor Environment

The garden is a natural, outdoor space designed to offer rich, sensory experiences. While every effort is made to maintain a safe and well-considered environment, it does include natural features such as uneven ground, rocks, stones, sticks, plants, and insects.
As a result, minor bumps, scratches, stings, or bites may occasionally occur.

Although such incidents are uncommon, they are an inherent part of outdoor play and exploration.

The garden is secure and gated. All attending adults are responsible for ensuring the gate is kept closed at all times to maintain the safety of the space.

Weather

Sessions take place throughout the year, embracing all seasons and weather conditions as an important part of children’s outdoor learning experiences. Sessions will only be cancelled in the event of unsafe conditions, such as severe weather or storms.

Please ensure that children are dressed appropriately for the weather, including suitable footwear such as wellington boots and waterproof clothing. It is recommended that you bring a change of clothes and a towel.

Qualifications & Safeguarding

Secret Garden in the Ham is led by a fully qualified Early Years Teacher, holding a First Class Honours degree in Early Years Teaching and Learning and a PGCE in Early Years Education.

An enhanced DBS certificate is held and registered on the Update Service, ensuring ongoing safeguarding compliance.

The provision is underpinned by a strong understanding of child development, play-based learning, and creating safe, nurturing environments where children and families feel supported.

Respect for Space & Community

Secret Garden in the Ham is a calm, inclusive and welcoming space for all. We are committed to upholding the principles of the Equality Act 2010, ensuring that everyone is treated with fairness, dignity and respect. We celebrate diversity in all its forms, including age, disability, race, religion or belief, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, and marriage or civil partnership.

All families are expected to treat one another with kindness and consideration, helping to create a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

As a nature-based setting, we encourage everyone to care for the living elements of the garden, including plants, trees, insects, birds and other wildlife. These are an important part of the children’s learning experience and should be handled gently and thoughtfully.

Please help us to keep the space clean and enjoyable for all by taking any rubbish home with you and leaving the garden as you found it.

Children remain the responsibility of their accompanying adult at all times, and we ask that adults support children in using resources safely and respectfully.

Together, we care for this shared space so it can continue to be enjoyed by our whole community.

Accessibility & Inclusion

Inclusivity sits at the heart of Secret Garden in the Ham. We are committed to the principles of the Equality Act 2010 and the SEND Code of Practice (0–25 years), supporting all children and families to feel welcomed, valued and able to access the space.

Ongoing efforts are made to seek funding, adapt the environment and develop provision to ensure the garden is as accessible and inclusive as possible for all. This includes making reasonable adjustments where possible to support individual needs.

We recognise that every child and family is unique, and we encourage open communication to help us understand and support any additional needs wherever we can.

We aim to remove barriers to participation wherever possible.
